Bali boy could face trial next week

A 14-year-old Australian boy facing drugs charges in Bali could go to trial next week.

The chief prosecutor in the case, I Gusti Gede Putu Atmaja, said police would hand the case over to him in the coming days.

"The police said they will bring the boy on Wednesday here to my office," Mr Atmaja said today.

He said while efforts would be made to arrange for the boy's trial to occur as soon as possible, the exact timing would be up to a judge.

"Not this week. Next week maybe," he said.

"We will wait for the judge to give me the date when we have to go to the trial."

Mr Atmaja confirmed the Year 9 student, from Morisset Park near Newcastle, NSW, would be interviewed at the prosecutor's office on Wednesday.

"I will interview him, and why he done this or that," he said.

"He has to sign my paper, why you do this, where you get the stuff from, have you been in jail before."

The teenager is being held at an immigration detention centre in Jimbaran, where he was moved to from police headquarters on Saturday.

He has been in custody in Bali since his arrest on October 4 after he was caught with 3.6 grams of cannabis which he allegedly bought from a street dealer in Kuta.
