BARACK Obama's historic day was played out on Twitter as much as it was in real life.
The President won re-election to White House for a second term, and a Twitter record in the process for the most retweets of all time.
His official victory announcement - a picture of him hugging his wife Michelle with the caption: "four more years" - was picked up and retweeted 320,821 times at the time of writing.
His campaign announced the President's re-election to the White House moments after it was called by TV networks CNN and Fox News.
On September 27, Justin Beiber's tweet about a young girl dying of cancer scored more than 223,000 RTs.
Earlier in the day, his Tweet "RT if you're in #TeamObama tonight" was shared 200,944 times.
