Webb Simpson: the narrowest of leads heading into Sunday

Sky Bet

Webb Simpson will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

The 26-year-old American carded a solid three-under-par 69 to end the day a single shot ahead of Ryan Moore (68) and DA Points (69).

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is one stroke further behind along with overnight leader Nick Watney.

McIlroy, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday, carded a 66 which at one stage looked like being even better after he had made four birdies in his opening five holes.

He went on to hit 16 greens in regulation as he bids to win the tournament for a second time in three years.

Watney traded four birdies with as many bogeys and had to settle for 32 putts, while the best round of the say belonged to Australian Geoff Ogilvy whose 65 moved him from 34th to eighth and four shots behind Simpson.

The 34-year-old former US Open champion from Adelaide used up just 25 putts with his only dropped shot of the day coming at 18.

Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood are tied-for-30th after a brace of 68s but are nine off the pace.
