Arsene Wenger: Critical of Arsenal's display following 4-0 loss to AC Milan

Sky Bet

Arsene Wenger was critical of Arsenal's display following their heavy 4-0 defeat to AC Milan in UEFA Champions League action.

The Gunners have been left with a mammoth task progressing in Europe's Premier club competition after being battered in the San Siro.

Robinho's brace put the Rossoneri in control following Kevin-Prince Boateng's opener, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic adding a fourth late on.

Wenger was far from happy with his side's display in Milan, stating they were not up to scratch in defence and attack.

Difficult

"It's very difficult, but what's more difficult to take was the performance we produced tonight," he said on Sky Sports.

"Defeat can sometimes happen when you play well, but I felt that defensively and especially offensively we were poor.

"We were in trouble with the same problem, the ball over the top. Slow to read the game and slow to respond. Well beaten in the challenges. Of course it was a big, big problem for us the whole night.

"We were well beaten and never in the game. It was a big shock."

Wenger is not writing off their hopes of a remarkable second-leg comeback, but the Frenchman knows the odds are against his side.

"Statistically it's too big a deficit," he continued. "We're try of course, but there's very little hope there.

"The result is massive for them, a massive advantage. We're give it our best. We can't be any worse than tonight anyway."

Injury

Arsenal lost Laurent Koscielny to a suspected knee injury in the contest and Wenger is not expecting him to feature in their FA Cup clash at Sunderland.

When asked if Koscielny would miss out, he replied: "Certainly yes. It's another problem in central defence.

"It looks like a knee problem. We've lost (Per) Mertesacker. We've lost Koscielny tonight. It's a big concern."
