CANADIAN murder suspect Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested today in the German capital Berlin, the Bild newspaper reported.
The porn actor and stripper, who was the subject of a global manhunt after he allegedly murdered his gay Chinese lover and mailed body parts, was picked up at an internet cafe in Berlin's Neukolln district, the newspaper reported, citing police sources.
According to AFP, an employee of Eurolines, which operates buses throughout Europe, claimed he had seen Magnotta board a bus to Berlin from Paris Friday night.
Magnotta's alleged crimes were so grisly he earned a number of nicknames in worldwide headlines, including "The Body Parts Suspect," "The Butcher of Montreal," and "Canadian Psycho" because the online video believed to show him stabbing another man to death with an ice pick has a background track of the song from the film American Psycho.
He is the only suspect in the death of 33-year-old Lin Jun, a Chinese native studying in Montreal, where Magnotta was living.
Lin's headless, limbless torso was found in a suitcase near Magnotta's apartment last Tuesday and shortly afterwards, a hand and a foot from the body arrived in separate packages in Ottawa, mailed via Canada Post to the Liberal and Conservative party offices.
Police said Magnotta was thought to have flown from Montreal to Paris on May 26 and there were reports his mobile phone signal had been traced to a hotel in the Paris suburb of Bagnolet.
The daily Le Parisien reported on�Sunday that investigators had questioned the manager of a bar in the northern area of Batignolles who said Magnotta had a Coke there late on Wednesday.
"He was very nervous (and) he drank the Coke in one go. A man with an impressive physique came into the bar and started talking to him. They knew each other," the manager said, adding that the pair left together.
