MUSICIANS have welcomed the latest music streaming service as a way of easing the impact of illegal downloading.
Telstra launched its MOG subscription platform on Thursday, just weeks after Spotify officially landed in Australia.
The Telstra service offers access to 16 million songs for a monthly fee of between $6.99 and $11.99 with no advertisements built into the streams.
ARIA winning singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch said streaming services would be the best way to encourage music fans to pay for music if they currently download illegally.
"For over a decade now we've been living in a rapidly changing world thanks to technology and what music subscription does is allow people to move away from piracy,'' she said.
"And from a consumer point of view it's pretty mind blowing in terms of the number of artists you can discover.''
