Dos Santos upset with Spurs

Dos Santos: Unhappy at not securing a move but now hopes to get a chance at Tottenham

Sky Bet

Giovani Dos Santos admits he has been left 'disappointed and angry' after failing to secure a move away from Tottenham Hotspur before the close of the transfer window.

The Mexico international has struggled to establish himself at Spurs since joining from Barcelona in 2008 and has made just 10 appearances in the Premier League.

It is almost 12 months since he last featured for Spurs and he has undertaken spells on loan at Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander during his time at White Hart Lane.

He was hoping to secure a move to Sevilla this summer after also being linked with Genoa, Lazio and Wigan Athletic, and is unhappy that Spurs failed to agree a deal.

Very surprised

"To be honest I already felt at another club, Sevilla, and we had already completed more than 50% of negotiations," the 22-year-old told Sport.

"Almost everything had been agreed but with half an hour to go Spurs changed their minds, something I found very odd.

"I was very surprised Harry Redknapp changed his mind, given that in the three years I've been with Tottenham he has not used me or had confidence in me.

"I hope this time he is honest and tells the truth when I talk to him about where he would like me to play.

"Both myself and my agent have been left disappointed, sad and angry at the way Tottenham have acted and after such a long time without having any confidence in me I am now going to get my chance, which seems strange.

"Even so, I mean to take this opportunity out of respect to the Tottenham fans and also because of the professional I am."

Dos Santos has been included in Spurs boss Redknapp's 25-man squad which has been submitted to the Premier League for the first half of the season.

'I did what?' - drunk held over snake injury

Python

A SNAKE bite left the victim seriously hurt, but the injured party isn't whom you'd expect.

US police say a python underwent emergency surgery after a man allegedly bit the creature twice.

Officers were called to Del Paso Heights, in the US city of Sacramento, after a passer-by reported that a man was lying on the ground and may have been assaulted, according to Sergeant Andrew Pettit.

When they arrived, officers found David Senk, 54, still lying there ? but police say he wasn't the one who was assaulted.

Another man approached officers and accused Mr Senk of taking two bites out of his 1m-long pet python, Sgt Pettit said.

Mr Senk was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully maiming or mutilating a reptile and booked on $US10,000 ($9335) bail.

In a jailhouse interview with KXTL-TV today, Mr Senk said he had no memory of the incident and that he had a drinking problem.

"I did what?" Mr Senk said.

"If you find the owner, tell him I'm real sorry... I'm willing to help pay for medical expenses."

The snake was turned over to the city's Animal Care Services, where it was recovering today after losing several ribs.

The female python, about a couple years old, had extensive bite injuries, said Gina Knepp, acting animal care services manager.

"You could see the poor snake's liver, all the way down the side," Knepp said.

The snake's owner has not yet come forward to claim the pet or file a report with animal care officials, Ms Knepp said.

Steven Seagal denies shooting puppy dead

Steve Seagal

IF YOU want Steven Seagal to say sorry for having a hand in the slaughter of your puppy, you'd better show him a photo of the corpse.

The action star has been accused of having a hand in the shooting of a family dog while filming his reality TV show Steven Seagal: Lawman, which follows his duties as a reserve deputy sheriff.

Jesus Sanchez Llovera claims his 11-month-old pet was shot dead during a raid by Seagal on his home in Laveen, near Phoenix, Arizona, on March 9.

Seagal, captaining a SWAT tank and leading scores of officers in riot gear, burst into Llovera's home in search of an illegal cockfighting farm. They knocked down Llovera?s fence and wall, blew out his windows and piled into his family living room.

Llovera says his puppy was caught in the fray and shot by police. He wants $100,000 and a written apology from the action star.

In a joint statement with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department (MCSD), Seagal said: "I've been called a lot of things in my career, some of them not so kind. But to be labelled an animal abuser is beyond the pale and that is simply a role I will not accept."

He said that he was considering a lawsuit against Llovera for "fabricating the puppy killing".

The MCSD also denied the allegations, saying "no dog was even injured, much less killed...no firearm was discharged during the course of this operation."

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said: "If my deputies, or Seagal for that matter, had done something so awful like shooting a family dog, then where are the photos to prove it?

"Where is there any evidence by Llovera to prove this accusation and why are we only now hearing about it five months later?"

Tropical storm Alex returns to kill 10

THE first major storm of the Atlantic season was entering the Gulf of Mexico today after unleashing landslides and floods that killed at least 10 people in Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Overnight, Alex, which had been downgraded earlier to a tropical depression, strengthened and regained its tropical storm status.

At noon (AEST), Alex, which packed sustained winds of 75km/h, was entering the Gulf of Mexico some 100km west southwest of Campeche, Mexico, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.

"Additional strengthening is forecast - and Alex could become a hurricane within the next 48 hours," the NHC said.

Although it was not due to directly hit the massive BP oil spill off the southern US state of Louisiana, the storm could still generate waves that would hamper clean-up and containment efforts.

Officials in Nicaragua told AFP the bodies of six people had been found in or around the northern city of Esteli, swept to their deaths by torrents from the swollen San Lucas river.

In eastern El Salvador, on Central America's Pacific coast, two people drowned when they were carried away by strong currents near San Miguel, while more than 500 people were evacuated to shelters from high-risk areas.

In western Guatemala, two farmers working on a road improvement project were buried and killed by a rain-triggered landslide, the national emergency agency Conred reported.

Forecasters said the storm was expected to dump a total of 10-20cm of rain over the Yucatan Peninsula, southern Mexico and Guatemala bythis afternoon.

Up to 38cm of rain were possible in mountainous areas and forecasters warned of "life-threatening flash floods and mudslides".

Central America was slammed last month by Tropical Storm Agatha, which roared ashore into Guatemala from the Pacific, unleashing heavy rains and floods that left some 275 people dead or missing.

The NHC's long-term forecast has the storm heading over the Gulf of Mexico in the direction of the US-Mexico border, but with a possibility of waves and winds generated by the storm affecting the site of the huge oil slick unleashed by the April 20 explosion of the BP-leased Deepwater Horizon rig.

But a forecaster at the NHC downplayed a direct hit on the oil cleanup area.

"The storm is not an issue for the spill," said NHC spokesman Dennis Feltgen.

Bear grilled: 'He's not a survival expert'

HE'S known around the world as Bear, but the TV survivalist has been seriously grilled by an Aussie guide who reckons he wasn't all that tough when it came to the rugged Kimberley outback.

Staying Alive Survival Services director Nick Vroomans was hired by the Man vs Wild crew in 2007 to act as Bear Grylls' behind-the-scenes guide during an episode shot in Western Australia, the Herald Sun reported.

Vroomans, based in Laidley, just outside of Brisbane, told mX the show was "entirely scripted''.

"He's not a survival expert, he's an adventure actor,'' said Vroomans, who set up his own Outback survival company in 1997.

"Everything you see in the show is set up I built him shelters and found him snakes to .. eat it's all for show.''

Grylls will be in Melbourne tomorrow for Bear Grylls Live.

A spokeswoman for Man vs. Wild's UK-based production company, Diverse Television, said compliance issues in the early series had been raised before.

"Bear does do all his own stunts and does put himself in extremely perilous situations, however the series is not an observational documentary but a how-to guide to basic survival techniques in extreme environments,'' she said.

Vroomans said he didn't hold anything against Grylls, 37.

"Bear is a nice guy, he's a good person and he generally contacts me when he comes to Australia,'' he said.

"He may not be a survival expert but if he gets people interested in finding out more, that can only be a good thing.

"I've got nothing against Bear or the producers.

"What he does isn't survival but it's definitely entertaining,'' said Vroomans, who learned his trade at the Australian Defence Force combat survival school.

"On the show broadcast to Europe and the US, you see him catch a snake, kill it, and eat it.

"But it was actually two snakes a roadkill that I found which he (was shown beating) on the head and eating, and then a live olive python that a wildlife carer had been rehabilitating.

"Bear decided he wanted to swim across a river with the snake, but he kept dropping it and losing it. I had to keep catching the thing and giving it back to him.''

While the episode showed Grylls perilously close to saltwater crocodiles, Vroomans said Bear, a former UK Special Forces commando, wouldn't go near them.

"The whole crew was petrified of the crocodiles,'' he said.

"Bear didn't want to get anywhere near the water, so we filmed a set up of him (like) he was near a crocodile when he was actually a safe distance away.

"I was a bit miffed when I saw the finished show.''

Diverse Television said the "program explicitly does not claim that presenter Bear Grylls's experience is one of unaided solo survival''.

Pageant outrage: Girl, 4, gets fake bust

Maddy Jackson

  • US mum gives girl padded chest, bottom
  • In the UK it's a spray tan for a 4-year-old
  • In China, just let the kid drive a car

A FOUR-year old girl has been given fake boobs and a padded bottom to emulate Dolly Parton in the latest beauty pageant controversy from the US.

Mum Lindsay Jackson has defended her efforts to give her daughter Maddy the busty look under a tight-fitting pink outfit in an appearance on reality show Toddlers and Tiaras.

"To some people, it's over the top, to us it's just what happens. It's just normal.

"When she wears the fake boobs and the fake butt, it's just like an extra bonus.

"It's really funny when she comes out on stage and everyone thinks it's hysterical," she said.

The news is likely to fuel concerns about the sexualisation of children in beauty pageants and the messages being sent to young girls in society generally.

In the UK, The Sun also reports on a mum who gives her four-year-old regular spray tans to "feel included".

Beautician Jools Willis, 37, says little Tate's 10-year-old sister Darcie is a dancer and "when she does shows the tan helps her under the stage lights".

The East Sussex mum believes: "Beauty treatments help boost a child's confidence."

Tate said: "I like having a spray tan because it makes me look good. I like having the same as Mummy and Darcie."

By now, mums might be feeling a little under the hammer, but the news from China is that dads may be missing the "age-appropriate" message too.

Shocking video shows a four-year-old Chinese girl behind the steering wheel as her father allows her to drive along the busy highway in Shandong Province, China, The Daily Mail reports.
