Corby suffering with meds, may be freed

Schapelle Corby's drug smuggling case may be re-opened following fresh claims the convicted drug smuggler could have been set up.

SCHAPELLE Corby's lawyer says Kevin Rudd could hold the key to securing the convicted drug smuggler's release after "credible" new evidence emerged.

A "witness" emerged on Channel 9 last night, almost seven years after Corby was convicted of smuggling marijuana into Bali, claiming the former beautician was a victim of a panicky airport baggage handlers.

Australian lawyer Kerry Smith-Douglas - who has worked on a pro-bono basis for Schapelle for almost three years - told Sydney radio station Mix FM today she was taking the new witness "very" seriously.

"She's credible, she's intelligent, she doesn't have any criminal history herself, she's maintained a very high profile job and she's a very credible person," Ms Smith-Douglas said.

"I think it shows there's reasonable doubt, which indicates that there should be a judicial review immediately into her case.

"Ironically, Kevin Rudd is in southeast Asia as we speak, so it's just a matter for Kevin Rudd - who in 2005 - offered the prisoner exchange program ... it's now up to him or Julia Gillard to pick up the telephone and let them know there's reasonable doubt."

And on Corby's current condition:

"She's really bloated, she's well overweight, she's on medication that has serious side effects and she's on anti-psychotic drugs."

A clinical counsellor using the alias "Sue" said yesterday she was dating a baggage handler at Brisbane airport in October 2004, the month Corby was arrested.

He allegedly told her that a fellow worker came to work with a large bag of marijuana.

She told Channel 9 news yesterday: "When the supervisor was coming the guy panicked and grabbed one of the bags behind him and hid it in there. When he was talking about a big bag, he meant a big bag."

Sue said she came forward because it was playing on her conscience and signed a statutory declaration regarding her claims. She said she could tell police the name of one of the men allegedly involved. Corby's Australian lawyer Kerry Smith-Douglas described Sue's statutory declaration as "extremely important".

Corby is awaiting the outcome of a clemency appeal lodged with the Indonesian government.

Jennings: Delighted to be staying at Motherwell after attracting interest from elsewhere

Sky Bet

Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings has signed a new contract with the club, while Nicky Law has completed his move to Fir Park from Rotherham.

Jennings, who had attracted interest from Aberdeen and Hearts, has penned a one-year deal while Law penned a two-year contract after the expiry of his Rotherham deal.

Jennings had returned to pre-season training on Tuesday with the rest of the Motherwell squad but his signature was a relief to manager Stuart McCall following an impressive season.

McCall said: "Towards the end of last season it looked like we wouldn't get him back here so we're delighted he has another year with us and who knows after that?

"His last couple of contracts have been a year and he has re-signed.

"His advisers and his agents thought they could possibly get him a Championship club and he had to wait on for that.

"It's not that he doesn't want to be here but you can understand he has to wait on. But he was back in Tuesday with all the lads and has been training well."

McCall added: "You need to speak to Steven but I certainly know he could have gone elsewhere for more money so it's good to have him here."

Jennings later told the club's official website: "I am delighted to be staying at Motherwell - it's a fantastic place to play your football.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time working under Stuart McCall and he's one of the main reasons why I wanted to stay here.

"The whole thing dragged on a little longer than it should have to be honest.

"I should've signed a few weeks ago but I've had a wee bit of a fall-out with my agent and that held things up slightly.

"But I am glad it's all sorted now and I concentrate on playing football again.

"I really think we've got a real chance of doing even better than last season and I want to be a part of that."

Grateful

Law is Motherwell's second signing of the summer following Michael Higdon's arrival from St Mirren and McCall was also instrumental in securing his signature.

The 23-year-old played for Sheffield United in the Premier League when McCall was assistant manager and was later reunited with his mentor during a loan spell with Bradford.

Law was immediately keen on a move to Motherwell when McCall took over in January and carried it through after just missing out on promotion to League One with Rotherham for a second successive season.

"I know the manager quite well, I've been with him since 16 really," Law said.

"He took me on loan at Bradford and I've always been grateful to Stuart for what he has done for me so far.

"He was a big part of it and I felt I needed a change as well.

"I've just turned 23, I felt I should come up and give Scotland a go. I feel it will be a good move."

The creative midfielder is excited at the prospect of playing in the SPL.

"I saw a lot of Motherwell's games last year, when I knew the manager was here I looked out for him," he said.

"It's a good league, there are some really good teams. I know Gav Gunning and Steve Jennings from loan spells.

Good move

"I knew a few people who have played in the SPL and from the choices I had most people felt this would be a good move.

"I spoke to quite a few teams in England in League One, Crawley and Scunthorpe and a few others.

"After speaking to the manager I felt this would be a good move. I haven't seen a lot of the SPL but the impression I have is that it's a similar level to the Championship."

McCall will now step up his attempts to re-sign Gunning following his loan spell from Blackburn in the second half of last season.

"We really only have one spot left," McCall said. "Although the budget is the same, a lot of the players have got more money so it has basically taken a place off us.

"But I'm delighted we have kept the quality intact. We need to get one more in the defensive area."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, Maria Baena

There was a time when Maria Shriver and Mildred "Maria"Baena shared the same man. And pursed lips / AP Source: AFP

SIX weeks after Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he had fathered a child out of wedlock, his wife Maria Shriver has filed divorce papers to end their marriage of 25 years.

The former television journalist and Kennedy family heir cited irreconcilable differences but offered no additional details about the breakup.

She also did not list a date when the couple separated, although they announced they had done so on May 9.

A week later, the former action star and former governor admitted he fathered a child with a member of his household staff years ago.

Shriver's filing does not indicate the couple has a prenuptial agreement, which likely means Schwarzenegger's earnings from his career as a Hollywood megastar will be evenly divided with his estranged wife.

The couple were married in 1986 and have four children together, including two sons who are still minors.

Shriver's petition seeks joint custody of the couple's sons, Patrick, 17 and Christopher, 13.

Schwarzenegger's spokesman Adam Mendelsohn declined to comment in an email. Shriver's lawyer Laura Wasser did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

Shriver stood by her husband's side as he ran for California's governorship in 2003 even after the Los Angeles Times reported accusations by several women that they had been groped by the movie star.

Schwarzenegger later said he "behaved badly sometimes" and was twice elected to the governorship.

He failed to fix the state's chronic budget problems and left office in January with an eye towards environmental projects and a return to the big screen.

One of his projects was an animated collaboration with comic book legend Stan Lee titled The Governator, but the project was shelved after Schwarzenegger admitted fathering the child out of wedlock.

Shriver placed her journalism career on hold while her husband served as governor, and her future has been more uncertain.

She has appeared in videos posted on YouTube in which she talks about stress in her life, the weight of expectations and the search for faith in a troubled world.

The filing was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.

Real CoD. Burger Town. Scrapyard. Oh my

CoD Scrapyard

The Scrapyard will come alive. You can shoot people in it with paintballs if you can get to LA. Source: Supplied

CALL of Duty XP is the name of Activision's new two-day Los Angeles festival of all things CoD this September, with a special focus on exclusive reveals for November's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer will be shown off, and the Call of Duty: Elite subscription service will be given a full run-down ahead of a November 8 launch.

Activision and Xbox are putting $1 million in the pot for a Call of Duty tournament, while Modern Warfare 2 level Scrapyard is being rebuilt as a life-size paintball arena and an assault course will recreate training level The Pit.

As for nosh, Modern Warfare 2's Burger Town joint will be open for business in the secure 12-acre compound.

Tickets for the event, which are limited to just over 6000, will be available on July 19 at $150 each, with all proceeds going towards the Call of Duty Endowment, a military veterans' fund.

That ensures that COD XP will be a somewhat intimate affair, at least in comparison to Activision Blizzard's other fanfest, the annual BlizzCon.

COD XP's September 2-3 dates place it between another fan expo, Washington's PAX Prime (August 26-28) and the Tokyo Game Show (September 15-18).

BlizzCon 2011 is set for October 21-22 in Anaheim, California.

Aaron Carter: I NEVER Said MJ Gave Me Coke!!!

Aaron Carter's rep claims the singer NEVER told an entertainment reporter Michael Jackson gave him cocaine and alcohol when he was 15 years old ... and says the reporter COMPLETELY FABRICATED the story.

0701_aaron_mj_EX

The controversy stems from an article that ran in OK! Magazine in Australia, written by international journalist Daphne Barak. In the article, Carter was quoted as saying, "Yes, [MJ] gave me wine. I mean, I could have refused, but I was 15. As for drugs? He gave me cocaine."

But Carter's rep tells TMZ, "Nothing was said that was reported" ... and directed us toward a YouTube video of the interview with Barak ... which seems to back up Aaron's side of the story.

We've reached out to Barak for comment -- so far, no response.

Gary Dourdan SMASHED his SUV into a parked 1969 Ford truck on the night he was arrested for drug possession in L.A. ... and now the owner of the truck says Gary refuses to pay for the damage.

0630_gary_dourdan_car_crash_launch_EX_v2
Cops had responded to the crash scene on June 13 ... after someone reported that Gary hit TWO parked cars around 3:30 AM. During the investigation, cops say they found ecstasy on Gary and arrested him for possession.

The owner of the truck says her car was towed away from the scene ... but it remains in an impound lot because she can't afford to pay the bill ... and claims Gary is ducking her insurance company.

Currently, Gary is not facing any criminal charges for the crash -- but we're told he's not off the hook .. because the D.A. could drop the hammer on the actor when they get the case.

No comment from Gary's camp.
